Processing And Entry Update

Beginning July 18, 2020, the Costa Rica Immigration Authorities

will begin to receive new applications.

The validity of documents, such as police clearance

certificates, marriage certificates, and birth certificates will be

valid until September 18, 2020, even if they have since expired

during the pandemic.

Foreign nationals in Costa Rica with an expired DIMEX as a

Temporary Resident after December 18, 2019, or soon to be expired

DIMEX, are now extended until September 30, 2020. Once the

automatic extension has ended, the foreign national will have 3

months to continue out the formalities with immigration

authorities.

Currently, only foreign nationals with a temporary, permanent,

or visa estancia case in process will be allowed entry into the

country. Entry into Costa Rica with a tourist visa is restricted

until June 30, 2020. Foreigners currently in Costa Rica with an

expired tourist visa will be granted an automatic extension until

August 18, 2020.
