Yolanda Turner recalls witnessing first-hand as a teenager the challenges that immigrants faced in trying to make better lives for themselves and their families. “I grew up and attended high school in an area largely populated by immigrants,” she recalls. “As a teen, I heard stories of my friends and their family members struggling to support their families while often being mistreated, underpaid, and overworked because of their lack of work authorization.” From these experiences, she decided to embark ultimately on a career in immigration law after working as a policy analyst in municipal government and as an in-house staff attorney for a large IT staffing firm.
Since joining FGI, Yolanda works with our IT clients, with a focus on H-1B petition preparation. “I approach every case as if I were literally stepping into the shoes of the client,” she says. “As such, I handle each situation with thoughtfulness, care, close attention to detail and compassion.”
Yolanda earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Relations from the James Madison College at Michigan State University and her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. A member of Phi Alpha Delta and a world traveler (Mexico, South Africa, UK, and France), Yolanda also enjoys singing, reading, and mentoring young women in her spare time. “I take pride in helping others on their quest to live and work in the United States,” she says about her practice, “it is a privilege that I do not take for granted.”
